Kernaghan and Kelly sign up for
ITV’s live Legends game

Former Newcastle United, Sunderland and West Ham striker David Kelly and Middlesbrough and Manchester City defender Alan Kernaghan have become the latest names to join the Republic of Ireland Legends squad that will face The England Legends at Fulham’s Craven Cottage on Thursday October 9th live on ITV4, kicking off at 7.45pm.

The addition of Kernaghan and Kelly gives the Republic of Ireland edge in terms of caps and average age. The average age of Ireland’s squad is 40.8 compared to England’s 41.4. The average number of caps per player is 34.2 against 26.2.

Kernaghan and Kelly join confirmed Republic of Ireland players Denis Irwin, Eddie McGoldrick and Mark Kinsella. Players already confirmed in The England Legends squad are Manchester United duo Bryan Robson and Lee Sharpe alongside Arsenal trio Paul Merson, Nigel Winterburn and Ray Parlour

The Legends: England v Republic of Ireland is the third game in England’s 2008 Legends Series. The England Legends beat their Scottish counterparts 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium Southampton on Thursday May 15th before losing 5-1 to Germany at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane.

Tickets for The Legends: England v Ireland are £14 for adults (over 16) and £8 for OAPs/Students, plus booking fee and available from Fulham Football Club’s Box Office on 0870 442 1234. Transmission for The Legends: England v Ireland will begin at 7pm. All Legends football games operate a ‘Kid-A-Quid’ scheme; all children under 16 will gain entry to The Legends for just £1.

About David Kelly During his 19-year career, 42-year old striker David Kelly made 606 appearances for 11 different clubs scoring 194 times. Kelly made 26 appearances for his country and scored on nine occasions, including a hat-trick on his debut against Israel. His most famous goal for Ireland came in the 1995 friendly game against England that was subsequently abandoned. Kelly was a member of Ireland’s EURO ‘88 and World Cup ’90 and ’94 squads.

About Alan Kernaghan 41-year old defender Alan Kernaghan made 404 first team appearances scoring 51 goals. Kernaghan was signed by Manchester City for £1.6 million after 200+ appearances for Middlesbrough, he was also the face of Teessiders when promoting the Premiership season in 1992-93. Kernaghan was a member of Jack Charlton’s USA ’94 squad.
